HAMPDEN If all goes as planned, employees could start returning to work at the shuttered waste processing facility in Hampden as soon as Monday, June 14, said Robert Van Naarden, CEO of Delta Thermo Energy (DTE), at an online meeting of the Municipal Review Committee (MRC) on Wednesday morning.
Van Naarden said he hopes to have the plant accepting full loads of waste and recycling from all 115 member towns within nine months after the company closes on the deal. It is expected to close in early June.
“We have done a significant amount of due diligence on the facility,” said Van Naarden, “to understand what we were buying … I think we have a very good understanding.” ....

PERC repairs to continue, electricity generation stalled
ORRINGTON Repairs at the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. (PERC), which takes in much of the waste from Hancock County and surrounding counties and burns it to generate electricity, are turning out to be “a lot more extensive than we anticipated,” said Plant Manager Henry Lang in an email last week. Because of that, the plant will be combusting trash but won’t be generating electricity for more than a month.
The facility was closed for maintenance from April 5 through 25 as Versant Power worked on the 115,000-volt lead line coming into the plant. PERC staff took advantage of that time to undertake a major turbine overhaul, which proved more complicated than expected. ....

MRC hears concerns about Hampden plant’s future
ELLSWORTH — Public comments at a March 25 board meeting of the Municipal Review Committee (MRC) aired concerns over how the former Coastal Resources of Maine solid waste processing facility in Hampden will operate once its purchase by Delta Thermo Energy Inc. is complete.
