GODFREY Village board members on Monday discussed a second tax financing district (TIF) for Godfrey.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved an ordinance that will set a public hearing for the TIF II redevelopment plan and project for 5:30 p.m. June 1 at the Godfrey Village Hall.
The area would encompasses 18 parcels south of Tolle Lane and east of Godfrey Road. The new district would also encompass a mulch plant and much of the land south of it.
Also on Monday, the board also:
Approved participating in the 2021 Green Cities Challenge sponsored by Missouri Botanical Gardens Eartway Center with the $350 entry fee to be paid by Madison County Resource Management. ....

Snowy Valleys wins Healthy Town Challenge

A project co-run by Snowy Valleys Council and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District has been named as the winner of the 2020 Healthy Town Challenge.
The challenge is an initiative of the Heart Foundation and the NSW Centre for Population Health. It supports regional and rural communities to facilitate healthy living activities to improve the health of their members.
Early last year, five communities – Condobolin, Holbrook, Murwillumbah, Muswellbrook/Denman and Snowy Valleys – received a grant of $15,000 each to bring their proposed projects to life. Today, the Snowy Valleys project, “Move & Grow”, was named the overall challenge winner, with the prize being an additional $5,000. ....

Vancouver added 1,490 new arboreal additions to its tree canopy in 2020, surpassing its original goal of planting one thousand trees last year despite challenges posed by COVID-19.
Across both public and private land, volunteers and city staff planted nearly 1,500 large-caliper trees, or trees with a stem diameter of more than 2 inches. ....
