GODFREY Village board members on Monday discussed a second tax financing district (TIF) for Godfrey.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved an ordinance that will set a public hearing for the TIF II redevelopment plan and project for 5:30 p.m. June 1 at the Godfrey Village Hall.
The area would encompasses 18 parcels south of Tolle Lane and east of Godfrey Road. The new district would also encompass a mulch plant and much of the land south of it.

Approved participating in the 2021 Green Cities Challenge sponsored by Missouri Botanical Gardens Eartway Center with the $350 entry fee to be paid by Madison County Resource Management.

EDWARDSVILLE A new program to provide rental assistance to both tenants and landlords has taken off, according to Madison County Community Development officials responsible for administering the project.
The county was recently awarded $7.8 million in federal rental assistance funds, and the program started last week.
At Monday’s Grants Committee meeting, it was announced that approximately $92,000 in grants have been approved so far.
The program is tentatively expected to last at least through the end of this year, according to Homeless Services Coordinator Andrew Esping, who is overseeing the program.

GODFREY Longtime Godfrey business owner and educator Kevin Botterbush has officially launched his campaign for Godfrey Village Clerk.
Botterbush said he wants to put his business, education and community knowledge and experience to work helping Godfrey become an even better place to live, raise a family and do business.
“Helping the people who live and work in our community is what local government should be doing, and that’s why I’m running for village clerk,” he said in a statement.
Botterbush said he is looking forward to working with the mayor, village trustees and the community to transform the village clerk’s office into a vital community resource.

COVID-19 cases in the area remain high and 6 more people lost their lives. Madison County had 5 additional deaths reported on Thursday, along with 252 new positive cases. That brings the total number of fatalities connected to COVID-19 at 298 in Madison County since March. Macoupin County health officials report one additional death and 51 new cases yesterday
In Jersey County, there were 26 new cases reported, and 6 new cases were reported in Calhoun County. Overall, in Illinois, there has not been a huge increase in cases in recent days but Governor JB Pritzker says it’s too early to tell if Thanksgiving gatherings caused a significant uptick in cases:
