Demolition begins ahead of Broadway Subway's major construction work

The first buildings set to be demolished are on the city block located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Main Street and East Broadway, where the Mount Pleasant Station entrance building will be located.
Another major demolition area will be the city block where the existing Broadway-City Hall Station entrance is located. All of the buildings on this city-owned block will be razed.

A smaller demolition footprint is slated for the sites of Oak-VGH Station and Arbutus Station, while South Granville Station will be integrated into a private mixed-use office and retail development. The developer’s demolition work on the old RBC office building for the building that will incorporate the South Granville Station entrance began last year. ....

FERNDALE, Wash. The project to improve and connect Thornton Street in Ferndale via an elevated crossing has reached a new milestone.
The City of Ferndale announced that the walls and fill for the Thornton Overpass project’s future bridge were built up to their full height of approximately 20 feet last week.
The next phase will now allow time for the unstable soil beneath the heavy approaches to stabilize, a process that could last for up to 18 months.
The new bridge is anticipated to become a principal route for the majority of Ferndale residents on the west side of the city. ....

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 47-year-old man was shot and found dead on the ground late Saturday morning in Akron, the Summit County Medical Examiner said.
Akron police arrived at the 800 block of Thornton Street for a call of shots fired.
Once they got there, police found the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound, according to the Medical Examiner.

About $190K of COVID-19 relief is available for companies in Massillon

MASSILLON General contractor Eric Ray said the few thousand dollars he received for his business through the federal CARES Act has helped to keep the ball rolling during a tough COVID-19 pandemic year.
Ray, 42, started his business, Ray s Reconditioning, about three years ago. He said he doesn t always receive a down payment from customers for many of his home remodeling projects. So the $5,000 business grant last year via the city of Massillon was a boost at the right time.
Anything we could get was handy, he said. The money freed me up to get supplies to get the job done, and keep the ball rolling. ....
