PM lauds Govt s decision for providing reservation for OBCs, EWS in medical, dental courses New Delhi, Jul 29 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the Government s landmark decision for providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs and 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Section in the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses from the current academic year. Pegasus major issue of national security: Kharge 30 Jul 2021, 16:27 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], July 30 (ANI): Terming the Pegasus row a major issue of national security , senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Malikarjun Kharge on Friday accused the Centre of not allowing a debate and discussion on multiple issues ranging from farmers, inflation, Mizoram-Assam border dispute, and Chinese aggression. He also said that the Pegasus issue is a matter of people s freedom and accused the Central government of curtailing it in a democratic set-up. Speaking to ANI, Kharge said, The Opposition wants a debate on the Pegasus issue. There are other issues as well which include farmers, inflation, Mizoram-Assam border dispute, Chinese aggression. OBC, EWS quota hiked in med seats OBC, EWS quota hiked in med seats Bangalore Mirror Bureau / Updated: Jul 30, 2021, 06:00 IST EWS) in All India Quota (AIQ) Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical / dental courses (MBBS / MD / MS / Diploma / BDS / MDS) from current academic year 2021-22 onwards. However, this move has elicited a mixed reaction. A student studying for MBBS courses via all India quota said, “Till now, medical institutions were competitive. So, it is better not to increase the reservation as it will affect the bright students but those who can afford hefty management fees will make it. The rise in reservation will only mean that the number of seats will be reduced.” Another student said this will give more opportunities to all. ....
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also lauded the “historic decision”. “A historic decision has been taken by the Government in the field of medical education in the country. Under All India Quota, 27 per cent reservation will be given to OBC students and 10 per cent to weaker income group (EWS) students in undergraduate/post graduate, medical and dental education,” he said in a tweet. The Prime Minister, at a meeting held on Monday, had directed the Union Ministries concerned to facilitate an effective solution to this long-pending issue, a statement issued by the Health Ministry said. “This decision would benefit nearly 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2,500 OBC students in postgraduation and also around 550 EWS students in MBBS and around 1,000 EWS students in postgraduation,” it added. ....
