Frontiers | Racism as Public Health Crisis: Assessment and Review of Municipal Declarations and Resolutions Across the United States

Racism in the United States has been cited as a key driver of racial health inequities. Racism as a public health crisis has been in the forefront, particularly with respect to state and municipal governments that have developed legislation, resolutions and declarations. This policy brief includes a review of resolutions and declarations across the US related to Racism as a Public Health Crisis through September 2020. There were 125 resolutions reviewed for content related to the history of racism, reference to racial health equity data, solutions and action steps, implementation and any accompanying funding or resources. We found that the majority of policies name racism as critical in addressing racial inequities in health with limited details about specific actions, funding or resources. ....

LANSING, Mich. - As part of National Public Health Week, nine individuals and organizations will be presented with the 2021 Hometown Health Hero and Jean Chabut Health Policy Champion awards for their contributions to protecting and improving the health of Michigan. 2020 recipients are also included below.
Hometown Health Hero awards are presented every spring as part of Michigan Public Health Week. By building connections, our communities become healthier, safer, and better for all.

The first week of April marked the beginning of National Public Health Week, a time to highlight all of the work done by public health professionals whose work is important in maintaining our health standards and quality of life, at Yokota Air Base.
While the primary focus of National Public Health Week is to promote the discussion of health awareness, education, and mindfulness, the public health flight is also using this as a chance to sharpen their skills and revitalize their flight.
“The National Association for Public Health started National Public Health Week in 1995,” said Senior Airman Amber King, 374th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron public health technician. “At its inception, the primary focus was to spread awareness about public health issues that affect people… obesity, tobacco use, or HIV prevention, for instance.” ....
