Flag Day celebration: Buffalo Bill Historical Park by: George Lauby - Jun. 14, 2021 Top News A display of 23 flags belonging to Linda and Gene Tacey hung on the outside of the south wall of the big barn at the Buffalo Bill Historical Park for Flag Day Monday, giving a glimpse of the history that led to the independence of the United States. The flags of Spain, France and England were on display, dating back to the1400s and earlier, representing the European explorers who first came to North America. Flags from the Continental Army, the Rhode Island Regiment, George Washington’s Liberty Tree, and the Grand Union are in the collection. The Grand Union flag preceded the flag with a circle of 13 stars, known as the Betsy Ross flag. After that, there were flags on display with 15, 27, 33, 34, 35, 45 and 48 stars. ....

Rutherford County, TN—Rutherford County Historian Greg Tucker recently received the Historic Preservation Medal presented by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).This medal is the most prestigious award the National Society presents to individuals who have done extraordinary volunteer work in historic preservation for a long period of time. Norfolk honored veterans Monday with a service at West Point Cemetery, where 58 Black Union veterans of the Civil War are buried.
