All water samples fail purity test, Chander Nagar residents moves rights panel | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: The residents of Chander Nagar are up in arms against the municipal corporation for its failure to provide them clean drinking water. Recently, they had got water samples from their area tested. The report, received on July 30, showed all samples failed the purity test. Through NGO Mahatar Sathi Jagriti Manch, the residents, on Tuesday, complained to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission and the MC commissioner.
They said, “The MC must provide clean drinking water when it is collecting the service charge. As the area is around Buddha Nullah, the water is getting contaminated.”
The samples were taken from the houses of Keemti Rawal and Mukesh Kumar, a government primary school and a handloom store. These were sent to PAU for testing with the help of district health department. The results showed E coli in excess in two samples. ....

He said the incident occurred in the Labour Colony of Seribehlol locality in Takhtbai tehsil.
The Saro Shah police station official said that the victim, identified as Mubashir Said alias Callagey, was killed when the function ended.
The suspects were identified as Bilawal and Janay, residents of Jehanday area, and a third unidentified accomplice hailing from Rustam locality. The alleged killers fled the scene after the occurrence.
The police lodged FIR against the accused on the complaint of Sudair Said, a brother of the transgender person, and started efforts to arrest them.
Farzana Jan, provincial president of the transgender persons association, reached the spot immediately afterwards and demanded of the quarters concerned to arrest the alleged killers forthwith. She also urged the provincial government to provide protection to the transgender community members. ....

LAHORE: A meeting of the Standing Committee on Law was held at the Civil Secretariat under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Law and Cooperatives Raja Basharat on Friday. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun and concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
The new proposed policy of allotment of houses and ownership rights in the labour colonies of Workers Welfare Board was reviewed during the meeting. Secretary Labour Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi gave a briefing on various aspects of the new allotment policy.
The briefing said that under the new policy, workers who would get a house in Labour Colony would be able to get property rights by paying the price fixed by the competent committee, while 95% of the houses would be allocated to registered workers, 3% for their widows and 2% for the workers with disability. ....
