An attempt to dismantle a controversial reserve fund fell short during Day 5 of Norfolk County’s levy-supported budget deliberations last week.
At issue was a $1-million “council initiative” fund that the new Norfolk council established in 2019 as a go-to source of money for spot projects that move the county forward.

Forest management underway near Backus Woods

The Nature Conservancy of Canada and contractors will be working this winter to remove invasive, non-native Scots pine and locally non-native red pine from plantations near Backus Woods forest complex.
The forestry management operations will take place on seven of NCC’s properties near Backus Woods in the Highway 24 and East Quarter Line area of South Walsingham in February.
