Merritt records three new one-week cases of COVID-19


 
Merritt’s weekly new cases of COVID-19 continues to stay in the single digits, with three positives between May 16-22.
The weekly numbers come directly from the BC CDC.
This week’s total marks one more than last week’s the first increase in five weeks, though a very minuscule one.
In the immediate surrounding areas around Merritt, South Cariboo continues to lead the way in success, counting zero new cases for the third week in a row. They were the only surrounding region with zero positives, as Princeton announced a single case after two weeks of zero cases.
Central Okanagan, specifically Kelowna, continues to be the closest hotspot – the area’s new cases rose from 185 last week to 224 in this report, marking an average daily rate of 10-15 cases per 100,000 population. ....

A building company based in Port Moody has acquired a 32-acre industrial site on Watch Lake Road they plan to eventually turn into a Cariboo Industrial Park.
Located 12 kilometers from Cariboo Highway, the site is served by a CN freight line connecting Vancouver and Prince George.
Omnitek Canada will use some of the land to create its innovative building products and will be offering other parcels of the land to entrepreneurs to join them in processing Cariboo resources.
Board Member Gaetan Royer said besides the low cost of purchasing the land, there were several other reasons they choose the South Cariboo, like the workforce in the area ....

Two new cases of COVID-19 in Merritt over last week

The week spanning May 9-15 saw two new cases of COVID-19 in the Merritt area, according to the BC CDC.
The number marks one more case than was seen the previous week, with numbers dropping into the single digits over the last month.
For the second week in a row, the surrounding regions of Princeton and the South Cariboo saw zero new cases. Central Okanagan, specifically Kelowna, continues to be the closest hotspot to Merritt, with 185 new cases over the one-week span: an average daily rate of 10-15 cases per 100,000 population. Keremeos sits at a similar rate, with six new cases over the past week. ....

Single new case of COVID-19 in Merritt in past week


 
Merritt saw just one new positive case of COVID-19 through the week of May 2-8, continuing a recent downward trend.
The BC CDC released the weekly numbers for new cases of the virus on Wednesday for the Interior, with Merritt being one of a number of surrounding regions where numbers continue to fall.
Both Princeton and South Cariboo saw zero new cases over the past week, while Keremeos also had one single positive result.
Central Okanagan, specifically Kelowna, continues to be the major hotbed in the area with 162 new cases, putting the region in the geographic distribution rate of 10-15 daily cases per 100,000 population. ....

Trial date set for South Cariboo shooting suspect

A South Cariboo man, charged in connection with a shooting incident, will go to trial early next year.
46-year old Scott Bradley is due back in Supreme Court in Williams Lake on February 22nd.
Bradley is charged with discharging a firearm with intent ot wound or disfigure and possession of a firearm contrary to an order.
100 Mile House RCMP were called to a rural area along Highway 24 near Roe Lake on May 4th of 2019.
Upon arrival, police say they discovered a male with a gunshot wound to his hip. ....
