SOUTHBURY A local teen was killed Monday night after the vehicle he was driving went over through a wire rope guardrail, down an embankment and into the Pomperaug River.
Ryan Anthony Rutledge, 17, of Southbury, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash that occurred near the Southbury Dog Park around 10:35 p.m., police said.
A passenger in his 2020 Jeep Wrangler a 16-year-old girl from Woodbury was transported to Waterbury Hospital with serious injuries, according to police.

They have released a couple of photos of the suspects in the hope that you might recognize them. Southbury Police received a complaint on Saturday, February 27 at 4:15PM regarding a larceny that had just occurred at the Ulta Beauty location in the Southbury Plaza at 100 Main Street North.

According to the Southbury Police, two black males, one wearing a red hoodie and jeans and another wearing a black hoodie and jeans, entered the store and proceeded to the men s fragrance section. Both of the men started loading expensive colognes and merchandise into shopping bags and then they allegedly took off without paying. The two men were seen fleeing into a white SUV which was being driven by another person.
Southbury Police Warn Public After Running Vehicles Stolen
The Southbury Police Department sent out a warning to local residents to remind them to never let your vehicle idle unattended, among other tips, after a couple of vehicles were stolen in a series of events that unfolded around town. According to the post on the Official Southbury Police Department Facebook page, Officers were called to the Southbury Post Office at 710 Main Street South, on a report of a stolen vehicle on Wednesday January 6, 2021. The owner of the vehicle called police after it had been stolen, the vehicle was stolen after the owner had left the vehicle running, with the doors unlocked, while they went inside the post office.
