While supporting Black creators and getting educated on Black history and anti-racism are things we all should be doing every month of the year, Black History Month is a great reminder to put even more time and energy into those pursuits. Instead of reading the same social justice Instagram graphics over and over again, you could give your time (and money!) to Black educators who have put together online classes covering everything from African history to modern-day anti-racism. ....

"Language is the Crucible of Power": An Interview with Carolina de Robertis

Sounds and Colours spoke to Carolina about
Cantoras and her literary work. Set in Carolina’s native Uruguay,
Cantoras tells the story of five lesbians through the dictatorship years of the 1970s and 80s, inspired by real women who set up a community in the coastal town of Cabo Polonio.
How well known is the story of Cabo Polonio in Uruguay?
The popularity of Cabo Polonio has exploded since I first visited, twenty years ago now, on the trip where I first met the women whose lives inspired this novel. Opening Twitter and Instagram, however, the zone was flooded with variations on the pastel infographic aesthetic that showcases one’s excellent politics. One wag’s tweet captured the dynamic: “hope everyone had a good time partaking in that beloved Indigenous People’s Day tradition: posting online about Indigenous People’s Day to own your dad.” ....
