Woburn Memorial High School awarded science grants Community Content Woburn Memorial High School has received six grants totaling $345,000 to support the development of its Innovation Pathways and to purchase manufacturing and biotechnology equipment, announced Kim Gustenhoven, science curriculum coordinator grades 6-12. During the spring of 2020, WMHS received the designation as an Innovation Pathway high school from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Since that time, the school has received a series of competitive grants to support the development of its two pathways: advanced manufacturing and biotechnology. The following grants were awarded: • Cummings Foundation Grant, $100,000: WMHS is one of 130 local nonprofits to receive a grant through the Cummings Foundation’s $20 Million Grant Program. Monty Tech awarded $323,160 grant in Baker-Polito administration’s latest round of skills capital grant Montachusett School Modified: 12/20/2020 2:48:38 PM FITCHBURG On Dec. 10, the Baker-Polito administration announced $11.7 million in Skills Capital Grants awarded to 47 educational institutions across the Commonwealth to update equipment and expand student enrollment in programs that provide career education. Local vocational-technical high school, Monty Tech, was among the list of grateful recipients. “Monty Tech has come to rely of grant funding to update and improve our programs,” said Sheila Harrity, Superintendent-Director of Monty Tech. “We continually seek competitive grants, such as the Skills Capital Grant, to ensure our students are being trained on the most current equipment, and familiar with the latest technology, and we could not be more grateful for the continued support shown by the Baker-Polito Administration. GARDNER The Gardner school district has received a state grant for the purchase of new manufacturing equipment. The $100,000 Skills Capital Grant, which was announced by Gov. Charlie Baker on Dec. 10, will be used to buy equipment for the newly designated manufacturing Innovation Pathway at Gardner High School and Gardner Academy for Learning and Technology. The grant will be used to purchase technological equipment to help students learn and develop manufacturing skills as part of their academic experiences. “With this new equipment, our students in all grades will have exposure to the technology they will use in real-world jobs,” said GHS Principal Paula Bolger. “Interested students will also graduate with specific certifications and training, making it possible for them to enter into the workforce right out of high school into quality jobs earning good wages. Other students can transfer those skills into other technical careers after earning college degrees.” ....
