With Boston Pride making the decision to move its 2021 festivities online, there won’t be a physical parade to watch before heading off to grab drinks or a bite with friends. But that doesn’t mean restaurants and breweries are tabling their annual celebrations.
To honor Pride Month, a handful of local eateries, taprooms, and wine shops are offering drink specials, limited-edition beer releases, desserts, and more. And they’re not just sticking a rainbow flag in a sandwich and calling it a day, either. Many are donating proceeds from specials and events to causes like BAGLY, the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth; the It Gets Better Project; and GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. ....

Eric Ting remembers the chill that passed through the room when someone coughed during the California Shakespeare Theater gala in March of last year. The annual fundraising event essential to the theater’s $5 million budget was celebrating a turning point for the 47-year-old company, where Ting became artistic director in 2015: He would announce that Cal Shakes was planning to move its offices and shop from Berkeley to downtown Oakland, showing that “where we make our home reflects our priorities,” and he would describe ways the company would be collaborating with community partners. “It was kind of a seminal moment,” Ting says.1 ....

Tufts Awards Grants to 35 Non-Profits to Support Local Initiatives


Tufts Community Grant program provides support for local non-profits hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic

Thirty-five local organizations in Tufts’ four host communities in Massachusetts have been awarded $35,000 in grants from the Tufts Community Grants (TCG) program. The grants, which are funded by donations from Tufts University faculty and staff, are awarded each year to community-based charitable organizations in Boston, Grafton, Medford and Somerville.
TCG is a giving option of the annual Tufts Community Appeal, an internal fundraising campaign for faculty and staff at Tufts University. Donors to the TCG program are members of the Tufts workforce who value and support the work of the university’s community partners and the welfare of Tufts’ host communities. ....
