Tweet Tropical Storm Elsa is currently moving up the east coast toward New York City and today, even before it arrives, there was a downpour which led to some flash flooding in parts of the city: Flash floods unleashed by a series of powerful thunderstorms crippled highways, streets and subways in New York City and beyond, totally shutting down the vital Major Deegan Expressway for hours and stranding motorists who had to be rescued. Multiple roads were reported closed in places like Yonkers in Westchester County and Hackensack in New Jersey as the brunt of the storm hit during the rush hour, turning roads into rivers and subway stations into pools. ....

Tristate Under an Enhanced Threat of Severe Weather Tonight We knew we had a chance of severe weather this evening here in the WBKR listening area. Over the weekend, that chance of severe weather grew from a SLIGHT chance to an ENHANCED risk. As you can see, that threat covers all of the tristate. National Weather Service The latest National Weather Service forecast says we should expect potentially severe weather to approach the tristate near the end of the day into the evening. And it could last until early Tuesday morning. From NWS: There is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms across the area, mainly toward the end of the day and especially tonight. Damaging winds will be the primary hazard. As is almost always the case, a brief spin up tornado cannot be ruled out, along with marginally severe hail. ....
For the most part, we ve been pretty fortunate this spring in terms of the weather. Outside of a few rounds of heavy rain here and there, it s been a relatively quiet severe storm season for the Tri-State. It looks like that may no longer be the case today and tomorrow. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, the entire Tri-State is under an enhanced risk for severe weather over the next 36 to 48 hours. The first, and main, threat will roll into the area later this evening and into the overnight hours because, for whatever reason, Mother Nature doesn t like doing things during the day. The second threat is expected to enter our area later in the day Thursday afternoon however, they don t expect it to bring the same potential level of intensity as round one. Although we are talking about the weather, so that could change at a moment s notice. ....
