Former city councilman and eternal slug Hiram Monserrate, who was expelled from the state Senate a decade ago after assaulting his then-girlfriend, who then went to federal prison for steering taxpayer dollars into his campaign operation, is running for Council again.
Telemundo 44, in partnership with Comcast’s Internet Essentials program and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, celebrated Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day) on January 6 and presented 200 free laptops to families who are served by the nonprofit Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), which serves over 4,000 youth and families through youth centers, school-based sites and public charter schools in the District of Columbia and in Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties as the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers. This donation is part of a broader national campaign led by NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, the leading media company serving Hispanics in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Casa Familiar celebrated Dia de los Reyes, or Three Kings Day, with a drive-thru food and book distribution in San Ysidro on Monday. Casa Familiar normally serves rosca de reyes cake and hot chocolate to the families of San Ysidro on Dia de los Reyes. This year they had to be creative and made it drive-thru celebration. The book they distributed was Beatriz Zamora’s The Spirit of Chicano Park/El Espiritu de Chicano Park, a book about the stories and people of Chicano Park. This event is the first of two monthly food distributions Casa Familiar will be holding. They will continue to provide these distributions until the summer.

The second annual Three Kings Day on Jan. 6 had a little bit of everything – even three kings. Mayor Michael Melham and the Township Council invited hundreds of residents to the drive-through event at the Belleville Senior Center on Franklin Avenue.
They followed searchlights that crisscrossed the sky to the Belleville Senior Center on Franklin Avenue, where they found people dressed in costumes, swaying to holiday music.

– NYWC is returning to action with a new YouTube series featuring a 30-man tournament. The New York Wrestling Connection posted an opening ceremony video announcing the new series, which will be their first shows since February of last year when they shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new series is called the Heart & Soul Cup and will release Saturday mornings at 11 AM on the promotion’s YouTube channel. You can see the announcement video below:
