Communications minister Paul Fletcher suggested the government helped make Bluey. But the Australian Children’s Television Foundation played no role.
Bluey, the Emmy award-winning children’s television show, is a smash hit for ABC Kids and has won the hearts of families Australia-wide.
So it’s no surprise the pre-school television sensation has everyone claiming a small part of it.
But we were taken aback when the federal communications minister, Paul Fletcher, made Bluey part of his budget announcement when neither the program nor the ABC received additional funding on Tuesday night. ....

Mackay property developer sues council in mega $42m lawsuit

A business mogul has launched a mammoth $42m lawsuit against Mackay Regional Council over a proposed residential development in the city s south.
Mackay property developer John Cowley, who with his wife Rhonda owns multiple development companies and trusts, has alleged council backflipped on a promise to support his push for a housing subdivision.
It is further alleged council benefited from more than $16m in infrastructure to the area that was paid for by the Cowleys, which they claim had only been designed and built as part of a joint agreement in relation to the housing project. ....

Budget funding demand for 'chronic' CQ road crash site


A volunteer road safety group is demanding funding in the federal budget to address a “chronic” issue it believes is a major contributor to road crash trauma in Central Queensland.
Road Accident Action Group life member Graeme Ransley said the lack of overtaking lanes on the Peak Downs Highway west of Nebo was a major concern for road users.
“Everyone feels with the amount of royalties that does come out of the Bowen Basin, there’s not enough focus on road safety issues, particularly overtaking lanes from Nebo to Clermont,” Mr Ransley said.
“The absolute chronic part is Nebo to Moranbah. ....
