Others are calling it “Uri.” Yes, the 2021 winter storm has a name, thanks to The Weather Channel which, according to The Tribune’s news partner, Patch.com, has been ignoring the meteorological rule book for the last nine years by declaring its own list of 2020-21 winter storm names. The winter storm that hit Lake Houston right after Valentine’s Day met the strict National Weather Service criteria for winter storm warnings, blizzard warnings and ice storm warnings and earned The Weather Channel’s designation as Winter Storm Uri. ....
Humble ISD school board election set for May 1 Written by David Tatchin Published: 22 February 2021 The candidates running for four Humble ISD board seats have been finalized, with Election Day set to take place on May 1. Early voting will begin Monday, April 19 and continue until April 27. School board members are volunteers, who serve without pay, and are elected for four-year terms. Four of the board’s seven seats are up for reelection this year. The deadline to submit applications closed at 5 p.m. Feb. 12. There are a total of 19 candidates running for the four positions. January crime rate in Kingwood described by HPD Written by Bruce Olson Published: 22 February 2021 Houston Police Sergeant Schmidt provided a summary and highlights from the January Kingwood crime report at the February Public Safety Committee meeting.“The January crime stats show six aggravated assaults. The first was a road-rage incident at 59 and Northpark where the suspect displayed a shotgun, according to the complainant. The second incident was a suspect attempting to break into a vehicle. He was shot at by the complainant and the suspect returned fire. The third one was an ex-boyfriend who confronted a new boyfriend and assaulted him and the last three aggravated assaults were all family violence related,” Schmidt said. ....
Humble City Council approves election for May 1 Written by Beverly Horner Published: 22 February 2021 On the blistery evening of Feb. 11, the Humble City Council approved a general joint election to be held May 1 for the purpose of electing a mayor and city council member places 1 and 2. There are three contested positions, with six residents seeking the posts, two for the mayoral position and four for the council seats. The last day to file was Friday, Feb. 12. Former Council Member Norman Funderburk will face Arliss Bentley for the mayor’s job. Funderburk, who served on city council for almost seven years, resigned in mid-January shortly after current Mayor Merle Aaron announced he would retire and not seek reelection. Bentley, a retired educator, has run for office in Humble several times. ....
