On Sunday afternoon, at about 12:55 p.m., a resident of Forest Road, also known as Route 31, reported that a tree limb came down through the power lines, creating a spark and starting a brush fire on the roadside, Wilton Fire Chief Don Nourse said. “It was going pretty good when we got there,” Nourse said. It only took about five minutes for the first crews to arrive, Nourse said, but in that time, the fire had grown to about a 40-foot by 40-foot area. ....

Jackson has been with the department a relatively short time, said Fire Chief Don Nourse, joining last year after recently moving to Wilton, but has extensive fire and EMS experience from his previous communities, including leadership experience. “He’s a great addition to the team,” Nourse said. “He has extensive fire training and background, and his career was as a facilities manager for MilliporeSigma, so he had a lot of background and is knowledgeable with hazardous material, as well as managing people.” ....

The first matter of business for the town was the budget, set this year at $5,259,397. However, after an introduction to the proposed budget, Police Chief Eric Olesen proposed a $30,000 addition, to be used for police salaries. He said police departments across the state are in a “critical situation” in trying to hire and retain officers. ....
