Carrier Sekani Family Services made the announcement yesterday (Thursday) following some deliberation with the province and the Agricultural Land Commission. Mueller told Vista Radio the new facility will be a big step forward for those struggling with substance use. “I think this is going to be something that is going to bring healing to our communities and to our members so I think it’s very exciting for us to be able to move ahead now and start with the design phase.” ....

(Submitted by Carrier Sekani Family Services) The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) has approved a plan by First Nations to build an addictions treatment facility on the agricultural land reserve in central B.C., after initially rejecting the same proposal months ago. On Thursday, the Carrier Sekani Family Services said the ALC had granted an exemption for creating a 60-bed recovery centre on farmland near Vanderhoof, B.C. ....

A proposed 60-bed addictions treatment facility near Vanderhoof has gained some new life. The potential location of the facility is the Tachick Lake Resort but was previously denied by the Agricultural Land Commission. Saik’uz First Nation Chief Priscilla Mueller says the facility received a letter of support from BC’s Deputy Agriculture Minister. She told Vista Radio the illicit drug crisis has taken a toll on their community. “We’ve had a couple of deaths recently in our community and some of our members off-reserve that have passed away because of drug overdose, so we are trying to put pressure on the government to support this. We received a support letter from the Regional District and there are ministers within the NDP that are supporting the initiative and I think we are getting some attention in the province because there is not a lot of treatment centres located in the north.” ....
