Carrier Sekani Family Services made the announcement yesterday (Thursday) following some deliberation with the province and the Agricultural Land Commission. Mueller told Vista Radio the new facility will be a big step forward for those struggling with substance use. “I think this is going to be something that is going to bring healing to our communities and to our members so I think it’s very exciting for us to be able to move ahead now and start with the design phase.”

First Chief Officer of Office of Mental Health and Addictions Appointed May 27, 2021 - 1:55 PM The provincial government has appointed Dr. Sam Hickcox as Nova Scotia’s first chief officer of the new Office of Mental Health and Addictions. Dr. Hickcox, currently the physician lead for addictions medicine at the Nova Scotia Health Authority, will be responsible for planning and providing strategic oversight of mental health and addictions policy development. He starts the new role July 1. “Dr. Hickcox has both clinical experience and a passion for advocating for a broader understanding of mental health issues and addictions. I am pleased to see someone of his calibre take on this important new position,” said Premier Iain Rankin. “Under the leadership of Dr. Hickcox, this new office will provide the coordination across agencies, departments and partners to improve programs, access and health outcomes.”
