Spruce Mountain directors consider initial changes to summer school policy

LIVERMORE Directors of Spruce Mountain Regional School Unit 73 on Thursday approved the first reading of policy changes that would allow more students to attend summer school.
Changes include lowering the passing grade from 50 to 30 for eligibility, and removing the stipulation that students with 30 or more absences are not eligible. The policy is for students in kindergarten through grade eight.
While reviewing the last trimester grades to tally how many of the 350 students at Spruce Mountain Middle School in Jay were failing at least one class, Principal Carolyn Luce got through the first 162 and realized that wasn’t a feasible list. ....

LIVERMORE FALLS Selectmen will consider Thursday whether to approve an agreement for Jay’s sewer superintendent to oversee both towns’ sewer employees and operating the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Action on the agreement was tabled Tuesday so selectmen who are not on a joint sewer committee could review it before voting on it. A committee made up of two selectmen from each town, both sewer superintendents and two town managers have worked on developing an agreement for several months.
Livermore Falls Selectman Heather Bronish said the initial discussion was about sharing manpower and equipment but it turned out not to be financially beneficial for Livermore Falls. ....

JAY Selectpersons and the Budget Committee approved a proposed $5.28 million municipal budget Monday to fund government operations for 2020-21.
It will be presented to voters April 27.
Only four proposals did not receive unanimous votes.
The Budget Committee rejected a donation request for $750 in a 4-3 vote, but selectmen approved it 3-0. The line will go on the warrant as Select Board recommending a yes and the Budget Committee recommending no.
Opposed to the vote were Budget Committee Chairman Charles Reikert, Secretary Lee Ann Dalessandro, Vicki McLeod and Justin Merrill. Select Board Chairman Terry Bergeron, Vice Chairman Tim Demillo and Selectperson Gary McGrane approved the proposal. ....
