With the advent of universal education, all students taking the Grade Six National Assessment are given automatic entry to secondary schools.
Director of Education Clare Browne says this is how students are placed.
However, only students making the top 100 list will get to choose which public secondary school they’d like to attend.
Browne is adamant only in certain circumstances will there be a shift in placement for other students.
He says changes in address will also not be considered. ....

Eleven-year-old Aliane Challenger of Grace Christian Academy has been named the top student for this year’s Grade Six National Assessment.
Challenger migrated from Dominica following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017, and began attending Grace Christian Academy in Grade 3.
Since that time, she has always been at the top of her class.
However, despite her previous accolades, she was in fact “surprised and in disbelief” over being named the top student in Antigua and Barbuda with a score of 378, edging out 1,445 other students for the top position. ....

Private school students dominate top 100 G6NA list

Private Primary school students dominated the Grade Six National Assessment (G6NA) top 100 list by securing 86 positions.
This means that only 14 of the 100 top scorers were from government schools.
Of that 86, Baptist Academy had 15 students and St Nicholas 14 while in the government section Five Islands Primary was deemed the top school with four top scorers, three of whom were males.
Jennings Primary, Sea View Farm Primary, and Mary E Pigott Primary each had two placements.
Despite that staggering difference, the overall performances of the 1,446 students who wrote the National Assessment this year were commendable in the two top levels compared to 2019 ’s sitting. ....
