Amazon looks to expand it's operation at Lakeland Linder International Airport

Amazon opened its 285,000-square-foot cargo facility in the northwest corner of Lakeland Linder in July 2020. Now, the company is seeking to expand on 63 acres adjacent to its current facility under terms offered in its original May 2019 contract with the City of Lakeland.
Amazon proposes to build an additional 464,000-square-foot facility, nearly twice the size. Other proposed features would include a new fuel farm to store up to 24,000 gallon of gasoline and 72,000 gallons of jet fuel, additional employee parking with truck bays for ups to 350 vehicles.
Amazon did not respond to requests from The Ledger to provide further details about the proposed plans. ....

LAKELAND There s been a change in direction at Lakeland Linder International Airport that hopefully will have residents counting more sheep at night rather than low-flying jets.
Gene Conrad, the airport s director, told city commissioners the airport kicked off a new preferential runway use program for its main runway 927 on Friday morning.
We are trying our best, as we want to mitigate noise as much as possible, he said. Unfortunately, some people will always been impacted.
The program aims to change the direction of planes approaching and taking off over Lakeland between the overnight hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., Conrad said. ....

LAKELAND The rumble of jet engines may mean money for Lakeland, but even city officials are seeking relief from noise of low-flying cargo planes at night.
Commissioner Stephanie Madden said she s received numerous complaints from Lakeland residents about the roar of low-flying jet engines.
I m supposed to hear a cash register chinging money every time someone complains about Amazon s planes, she said. But I ve still heard complaints.
Amazon Air began operations at its 285,000-square-foot cargo hub at Lakeland Linder International Airport in late July. It has gradually ramped up to eight flights daily, according to the company, consisting of three Boeing 767s and five Boeing 737 freighters. ....
