FIVE Kepayan rate-payers were compounded by City Hall during an operation carried out in Taman Ridgeview Phase 12 recently.
A City Hall spokesman said three motorists, whose vehicles had encroached on the housing roads, were found to have contravened the agency’s parking by laws.
He said a home-owner was also penalised for the haphazard disposal of garbage, including biscuit and oil tins, in the common area near his/ her home.

“Another individual was compounded for turning his/ her yard into a warehouse for spareparts and erecting illegal structures,” he said. ....

A Kepayan home owner will be asked to remove the zinc extensions he/she made to their house.
A KEPAYAN rate-payer will be instructed to remove the “illegal” modifications made to his/ her home as these extensions have encroached into the backyard drain reserve.
A spokeswoman for City Hall’s Building Control Department (BCD) said a check revealed that part of the house was occupying government land.
On top of this, no written permission had been given for the changes made to the building, according to her.

“This is a contravention of our Building Bylaws and action can be taken under this ordinance,” she said. ....

The area outside the backyard of this Luyang home resembles a mini jungle.
Rate-payers in Luyang and Kepayan, who fear that the drains behind their homes may have become a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes are advised to formally seek City Hall’s help to have their concerns addressed.
The residents are unhappy about the unkempt condition of the government land on either side of these structures.
In each instance, they decried the local authority’s failure to look after these reserves.

On top of noticing an increase in the number of mosquitoes buzzing about their homes, the homeowners also bemoaned the inconvenience of having to constantly clean up the dried leaves and fallen branches which littered their compounds. ....

Police DSP jailed two years, fined RM25k for asking for bribe

KOTA KINABALU: A senior police officer was jailed two years and fined RM25,000 or five months’ jail in default after he was found guilty of asking for RM20,000 from a woman in connection with a cheating case in 2016.
Mohd Mahyudin Abdullah (
pic), who held the rank of Deputy Supt at the time, was found guilty of asking for a bribe of RM20,000 from Josepin J. Langkan as inducement to not take action against her under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
The offence took place between 9pm and 10.30pm on June 15,2016, at a car park at the Mini Café and Bar in Lorong Austral, Taman Ridgeview, here. ....
