Midway into his second term, PM Narendra Modi today pressed the reset button by putting together one of the youngest Council of Ministers to steer India past Covid-19 challenges and effect a generational shift in the ranks ahead of forthcoming Assembly and 2024 General Election.
The average age of the new 77-member Council is 58, with 14 ministers now below 50 years of age.
The expectation is that new appointees will be “on their toes” to deliver government’s ambitious agendas across health, education, social justice and economic revival through the mid and post-pandemic periods.

Group of Ministers’ 27th meeting to discuss Covid-19 situation
For the eighth consecutive day, India has reported less than 3 lakh Covid cases in a single day. India reported 2,22,315 coronavirus infections on Monday. But, it also recorded highest number deaths in the last 24 hours at 4,454 till 8:00 am on Monday, according to Health Ministry data.
Cumulatively, the Covid cases stood at 2,67,52,447, of which active cases were 27,20,716 , recovered were 2,37,28,011 and the death toll surpassed the 3-lakh mark at 3,03,720.
Meanwhile, India administered 19,60,51,962 doses with 9,42,722 shots given in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. In addition, the total number of tests done during the previous day stood at 19,28,127. ....

The government on Friday announced an ‘enhanced commitment to States in the ten-day period till April 30’ allocation of the drug Remdesivir to States battling the second wave of COVID-19 infections, though it has failed to meet its existing , due to ‘issues’ with the placement of orders and transporting the drug across the country.
“After in-depth review of enhanced availability of Remdesivir due to ramped up production, it’s allocation plan to all States has been revised. It’s increased supply will help in fighting pandemic with deeper resolve,” Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister DV Sadanand Gowda said in a tweet. ....

NEW DELHI, April 21 (Xinhua) India s federal government Wednesday announced that it has waived off the import duty on Remdesivir, a broad-spectrum antiviral drug, to provide affordable medical care for the COVID-19 patients, officials said.
The step is aimed at increasing the supply of the drug and reduce the cost which will benefit the patients.
A notification issued by the federal finance ministry said import duty was removed from Remdesivir active pharmaceutical ingredients, injection and specific substances used in the manufacture of Remdesivir.
Considering the immediate requirement on the recommendation of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the Department of Revenue has waived customs duty on Remdesivir and its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API)/Key Starting Material (KSM).
