Famed for his Mark Twain one-man show, actor Hal Holbrook dies at 95
In 1985, actor Hal Holbrook told an interviewer in Kalamazoo, Michigan, that American humorist-writer Mark Twain “has become integrated into my whole life … no matter what the subject, he’s always a tremendously amusing wise old bird.” By that time, Holbrook had been performing his one-man show, “Mark Twain Tonight” for 31 consecutive years just about the midpoint of its run. The actor went on, “I think it would be a pretty good idea to keep doing this every year until I drop dead.”

Eddie Hassell killing: Grand jury indicts suspect in killing of actor

A grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old on a capital murder charge in the killing of actor Eddie Hassell during a carjacking in suburban Dallas.
D’Jon Antone, who lives in Dallas, was indicted Wednesday, Anna Tinsley Williams, the Communications Officer for Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, confirmed to USA TODAY Friday.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Dallas Morning News report that Antone was arrested in November, just days after Hassell was fatally shot in Grand Prairie, Texas.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Grand Prairie Police Department for comment.
Hassell, who was born in Corsicana, Texas, was known for his roles in the NBC show “Surface” and the 2010 film “The Kids Are All Right.” Hassell was living in Waco but had been staying with a woman at an apartment in Grand Prairie, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. ....

Hal Holbrook, the Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor who portrayed Mark Twain for decades, has died at age 95.
Holbrook died on Jan. 23 in Beverly Hills, California, his representative, Steve Rohr, told The Associated Press on Tuesday. USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for further information.
Holbrook s long-running career spanned film, television and stage, though he is perhaps best known for his role as writer Twain, which he began workshopping as a college student and would go on to develop the one man show Mark Twain Tonight. The role would lead to his first and only Tony Award in 1966 and one of 12 Emmy nominations the following year. ....
