1890 - A newly rebuilt Put-in-Bay House on South Bass Island reopens on the site of the previous hotel that was leveled by flames.
1902 - A mob of mourners converges on Forest Cemetery as six of seven of the young people who lost their lives in a boating tragedy on the Maumee River are laid to rest. The Toledo Bee reports as many as 2,000 morbid curiosity seekers packed the city graveyard and trampled the sacred ground, picked flowers and gathered other relics . The article stated they almost turned it into a circus atmosphere with laughing and disrespect. The Bee called the crowd disgusting . ....

1842 - City of Toledo builds a new fire station on Summit Street between Adams and Cherry Streets.
1889 - The Pemberville Leader begins publication.
1903 - Tragedy strikes a large group of Polish travelers from Toledo when many of the group are run over by a locomotive in Detroit. Hundreds had been waiting on the tracks for a return train to Toledo when they were hit. Nine people are killed and scores injured.
1954 - Grant Murray Field at Waite High School is dedicated.
1966 - WDHO TV, Channel 24, owned by Daniel H. Overmyer, begins broadcasting in Toledo. It is the city s third commercial TV station and later changes its call sign to WNWO-TV. ....

Jackie Robinson was far from the first Black man to play in the major leagues. Here are the four Black men who preceded him.
Major League Baseball will hold its annual Jackie Robinson Day celebrations on Thursday, commemorating the man who broke MLB’s color barrier in 1947.
Thousands of players will sport Robinson s iconic No. 42, which has been retired league-wide since 1997.
Ballclubs will post photos thanking him for ending segregated baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Robinson s former team, are sure to outdo them all. ....
