Grey nomads could be harnessed to help fill tens of thousands of jobs going begging across regional Queensland, with the state Treasurer urging the Commonwealth to examine tax laws to allow them to work without damaging their pension and superannuation payments.
In this week s Cabinet field trip to Outback Queensland, the State Government has been lobbied to help towns deal with a major worker shortage that s seeing businesses unable to open normal hours because there are no staff.
It is estimated more than 35,000 jobs are currently unfilled across regional Queensland, with the highest number of job vacancies since the global financial crisis thanks to skills and labour shortages. ....

Queenslanders face cuts to vital infrastructure including community pools, libraries and waste services as long-term financial pressures force councils to take drastic action to balance their budgets.
Councils say reduced federal assistance grants over years and the COVID-19 crisis has cruelled the finances of many regions.
North Burnett Mayor Rachel Chambers warned her council faced being $5.5 million in deficit even if proposed cuts were made.
These proposals include reducing swimming pool, library, administration and waste services, she said.

The facilities at the former Longreach Pastoral College are being brought back to life, three years after its mothballing was announced by the state government.
