A YEAR ago, today Didcot s iconic skyline changed forever after the power station s chimney was demolished. The 655ft chimney came down at about 7.30am on February 9, 2020 and the explosion could be heard for miles around. Despite strong winds and an Abber weather warning, hundreds of people turned out at viewing points to watch. Father-of three and grandfather-of-two Brian Neil worked at Didcot Power Station in the 1960s as a sandblaster. Following his death aged 74, his family instructed specialist industrial disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate whether his illness was caused by exposure to silica - tiny particles often found in the dust of rocks, clay, and sand. Mr Neil s daughter Karen Rumsey and her legal team are now appealing for information from his former colleagues about the conditions he faced while at the power station. Alex Shorey, the specialist industrial disease lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing Ms Rumsey, said: “Brian’s death continues to have a profound effect on his family who have many unanswered questions as to what caused his illness. ....
