A year ago, Jacksonville s restaurant owners faced a challenge: how to adapt and survive amid a mandatory shutdown of dining rooms due to the coronavirus pandemic. To keep the lights on and serve their customers and keep as many of their employees on the job as possible they did just that. They added drive-thrus, pivoted to takeout only, added curbside pickup and launched in-house delivery services. Some even added food trucks. Others, however, were forced to turn off the lights altogether either temporarily or, in some cases, forever. Now, with vaccine centers up and running, mask mandates discontinued and social distancing a distant memory, people are returning to Jacksonville restaurants in close to pre-pandemic numbers. ....

This year s Children’s Hospital Association photo exhibit is titled “Stronger Together: Children’s Hospitals During COVID-19.” The annual exhibit is typically a competition judged by photography experts, but the 2021 gallery features at least one image from every submitting hospital as a show of solidarity. The Wolfson photo is one of nearly 400 submitted from 51 children’s hospitals across the country. ....
08:20 AM EST Share The Jacksonville chefs and brothers will operate a full-service restaurant, bar and coffee shop at the Southside medical clinic. Mayo Clinic can start construction for build-out of the Mayo Atrium restaurant to be operated by Jacksonville chefs Matthew and David Medure. The city issued a permit Feb. 26 for Batson-Cook Co. to build-out 8,400-square-feet of space into the restaurant at a cost of $5.2 million in the Southside medical center’s new retail link. Mayo spokesman Kevin Punsky said Feb. 8 that most of that amount is the restaurant although there are some construction costs outside of it. Plans show seating for 220 comprising 164 for dining, 24 in a coffee shop and 32 on the exterior patio. ....
