STRATFORD It’s unclear who will win November’s election for mayor, but one thing is certain: whoever it is will be getting more money than the position pays now.
The Town Council voted 7-3 last week to approve a roughly 12 percent raise for the town’s chief elected official from $110,000 currently to $122,945 to take effect next year and be followed by annual 2.25 percent increases.
Delray Beach has had four interim and four permanent city managers in the past eight years. A $3 million state fine over the city's water quality can be blamed in part on the city's extreme instability at the top.
The possibility of adding a Building Permits, Zoning and Nuisance Officer for the Town of Hanover was proposed by Clerk-Treasurer Keith Mefford at last weekâs meeting of the Hanover Town Council.
âI would encourage that because weâre starting to pick up a lot of development,â said Mefford, who noted that this year there have already been 11 new building permits, which he said is a significant increase considering that there were 30 total last year.
He said the position would provide a means to âdo the detail work for the community,â which Mefford said will help to move the town forward. He proposed that the position initially be part-time and suggested setting a work session with the town council for further discussion.
