No word of any disciplinary action against Virat Kohli then? I chuckle and I despair. Cricket is so archaic. The captain of a national team is allowed to criticise, berate, intimidate and ridicule an official on the pitch.
And he was allowed to carry on playing on in the second Test! In any other sport, he would have been sent off the field. Kohli certainly shouldn t be playing in Ahmedabad next week.
All it would take to show the public the severity of any offence is the introduction of yellow and red cards. This was a straight red which would mean he misses the next three Tests. The lack of any action from match referee Javagal Srinath sitting there in his nice air-conditioned room beggars belief. Three and a half days and he has said nothing. ....

New UNC programs should focus on helping students find work, pay off debt - Carolina Journal

The UNC System wants to ensure new degree programs prepare students for successful careers.
University of North Carolina System President Peter Hans will overhaul the standards for creating new degree programs. Campuses will now weigh the public interest when adding the programs and decide whether the degrees help students find work and repay their debt.
Board members are also talking about applying the review process to existing programs, says David English, UNC System vice president for academic programs, faculty, and research. The UNC System Board met Thursday, Jan. 21.
“It’s right and proper that we ask to hear the public case for each new program we consider,” Hans said in his prepared remarks. “How will it serve the people of North Carolina? How will it leave the students and citizens of this state better off tomorrow than they are today?” ....

In Bill Maherâs review of Craig Brownâs â150 Glimpses of the Beatlesâ (Dec. 6), Maher asks rhetorically, âWho is this for?â
I would respond, âFor everyone,â because the Beatlesâ music is timeless. My parents enjoyed it in the 1960s. Iâve loved their music my entire life. And last year, for my childrenâs first concert, my wife and I took them to see Ringo Starr, where they happily danced and sang along to âYellow Submarine.â ....

Toyota Donates Electric Cars To American Red Cross L.A. Region
Toyota has donated five hydrogen-fueled electric vehicles to the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region in part of a new service initiative to promote climate change prevention.
DriveH2 is a new initiative by Energy Independence Now, a nonprofit that promotes the benefits of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The vehicles donated by the initiative will service the Red Cross’s blood services and disaster fleet that respond and provide shelter and resources to affected communities.
The fleet also helps to transport blood between collection drives and the health providers. In the past year, L.A. Region Red Crossers drove more than 104,500 miles. ....
