The Indian Cricket team s win at the Eden Gardens in March 2001 against Australia is considered one of the greatest due to several reasons. It was only the third instance in the history of Test cricket that a team following on went on to win the match.
The match was also memorable for Harbhajan Singh s hat-trick. But more importantly, it is known for the record-breaking partnership stand between Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman who together added 376 runs in India s second innings.

The Chennai Test was won by a team that showed better ability with the bat in conditions favourable for spin bowling. England captain Joe Root was quite candid in his post-match comments after his team’s 317-run defeat in Chennai on Tuesday. The England skipper credited India for being the better team in the manner in which they handled a difficult pitch that was spinning spitfires from outset. But what can be said of Root cannot of some experts, including former England captain Michael Vaughan, who slammed the quality of the pitch for being disproportionately in favour of spinners and not lasting the five days.
KOHLI SHOULD GET A THREE-TEST BAN
No word of any disciplinary action against Virat Kohli then? I chuckle and I despair. Cricket is so archaic. The captain of a national team is allowed to criticise, berate, intimidate and ridicule an official on the pitch.
And he was allowed to carry on playing on in the second Test! In any other sport, he would have been sent off the field. Kohli certainly shouldn t be playing in Ahmedabad next week.
All it would take to show the public the severity of any offence is the introduction of yellow and red cards. This was a straight red which would mean he misses the next three Tests. The lack of any action from match referee Javagal Srinath sitting there in his nice air-conditioned room beggars belief. Three and a half days and he has said nothing.
England s already slim prospects of saving the second Test quickly turned into a Mission Impossible after India took three wickets before the close on day three.
