Black Men Have Lower Cognitive Skills Than White Men, NFL Asserts In Brain Injury Lawsuits

Former NFL players who suffer from dementia or other brain injuries may be entitled to payouts under the NFL s $1 billion settlement of brain injury claims but the league uses a scoring algorithm that requires former Black players to score lower for cognitive skills than their white counterparts to receive an award which has been called race-norming.
The settlement is overseen by senior U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody, who was handed 50,000 petitions on Friday by former Washington running back Ken Jenkins, 61, and his wife Amy Lewis. The petitions call for equality in how former Black football players cognitive skills are evaluated in order to get a portion of the settlement. ....

More than half a billion Facebook users, including 32 million in the United States, found out over the weekend that their personal information was accessed by hackers. A study by UPenn and NYU researchers found Philadelphia landlords are adding bad terms into leases.
One big reason is the rise of shared leases, available cheaply on the Internet for landlords to use.
One of the coauthors says landlords will use these illegal terms as soon as moratoriums expire.
A new study took a deep dive into about 170,000 Philadelphia leases from 2005 to 2019 and found that the number of bad terms in them has increased sharply over the past 20 years.
Authors David A. Hoffman and Anton Strezhnev, of University of Pennsylvania and New York University respectively, found that unlawful terms are surprisingly likely to be associated with more expensive leaseholds in richer, whiter parts of the city. But Black tenants are more susceptible to eviction based on based on crime or drug use on the premises, an effect concentrated in whiter neighborhoods.   ....
