Danny Sterling I recently had the opportunity to meet and converse with two individuals who are involved with supporting and implanting the goals of a program in the communities of Pottawatomie and Lincoln counties. The program is called “Partners in Caring” (PIC). These two individuals are Joani Webster, the PIC director, and Mystie Smith, a volunteer at the Pottawatomie County Child Welfare Collaborative. Both of these ladies are passionate advocates for the youth that this program serves. PIC is a school-based, integrated health care initiative, providing a wide range of direct care and care coordination services in rural underserved communities in Pottawatomie and Lincoln counties. PIC utilizes an evidence-based model, CDC recommended strategy, known as Whole School, Whole Child, Whole Community (WSCC). ( Jack Jacobs photos) An automated newcomer has made a small step into the Scott’s Addition food scene that it hopes will lead to bigger things. ELYA, which sells quick-serve healthy entrees and snacks out of custom refrigerated vending machines, installed one of its machines in the neighborhood. It chose a spot outside the corporate office of menswear brand Alton Lane’s corporate office at 3121 W. The state’s Republican-controlled House passed Senate Bill 2 (SB 2) by a landslide 73-19 vote on Tuesday (20 April) after just “two hours of fierce discussion”, according to The Oklahoman. The bill would prevent trans athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports at publicly-funded K-12 schools, colleges and universities. SB 2 states: “Athletic teams designated for ‘females,’ ‘women’ or ‘girls’ shall not be open to students of the male sex.” The House amended the bill on the floor to require parents to sign a form “acknowledging the biological sex of the student at birth” for their child to be able to participate in youth sports. ....
