Alaska man sentenced to 20 months in prison for arson at Seattle's East Precinct

The Alaska man who set fire to the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct last summer now faces jail time.
Desmond David-Pitts, 20, was sentenced Monday in the U.S. District Court in Seattle to 20 months in prison for conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the fire he set Aug. 24, 2020, at the East Precinct. Surveillance video shows him piling up trash and lighting it on fire outside of a precinct door. He was arrested shortly after the fire.
At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour noted the danger posed to the officers who could have been trapped in the building. ....

SEATTLE - A 20-year-old Alaska man was sentenced Monday to 20 months in prison for conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the fire he at the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct in August. 
Desmond David-Pitts was arrested shortly after the fire that happened August 24, 2020. 
According to federal prosecutors, after marching with the group of protestors in downtown Seattle, David-Pitts is seen on surveillance video piling up trash against the sally-port door at the Seattle Police East Precinct.   ....

SEATTLE (AP) A federal judge sentenced a 20-year-old Alaska man Monday to 20 months in prison for trying to set fire to a Seattle police precinct during last summer’s racial justice protests less than half the prison time sought by prosecutors.
Desmond David-Pitts, of Anchorage, pleaded guilty to a federal arson conspiracy charge in January, acknowledging he set a fire to trash piled outside an East Precinct sally-port door late on Aug. 24 while others tried to bar a door to keep officers from leaving. ....

Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney faces a vicious smear campaign purportedly from activists supporting his recall.
A flyer distributed in Snohomish County is calling on activists to “bring your guns” and join a “death squad” in a smear targeting Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney.
Fortney, a well-liked and respected sheriff, has stayed mostly quiet over a politically-motivated recall against him. But he says now he must speak up. He posted a photo of the flyer on his Facebook page.
The over-the-top flyer claims Fortney runs “death squads” where excessive force is “encouraged” against suspects. It’s an activist position dripping with anti-police animus. But more worrisome, it’s a lie intended to inspire violence against the sheriff. ....
