NEW DELHI: Over 2.4 lakh people will vote on Sunday in five municipal wards. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal campaigned for Aam Aadmi Party, while BJP had senior members like Bhupendra Yadav and North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari on the stump. With Congress also putting its weight behind its candidates, all parties are determined on a good show ahead of full municipal polls next year.
The bypolls in Shalimar Bagh, Rohini-C, Trilokpuri, Kalyanpuri and Chauhan Bagar were necessitated by three sitting councillors being elected MLAs in February last year and the deaths of two incumbents. Four of the five seats were held by AAP and one by BJP. A total of 26 candidates are in the fray, including three from Bahujan Samaj Party and eight independents. The polling time is from 7.30am to 5.30pm, the last hour reserved for Covid-positive voters and those who register higher than normal body temperature during the screening at the 327 po ....

Over 70 nominations, including duplicate applications from some candidates, have been received by poll authorities for the February 28 civic bypolls, officials said on Monday. February 8 was the last date to file nominations for the by-elections for which all the parties BJP, Congress and AAP have fielded candidates.
A total of 73 nominations have been received by the Delhi State Election Commission till today (Monday). However, many candidates have filed duplicate applications too, so final figures we will get to know post scrutiny, a senior official said.
By-elections to fill vacancies in five municipal wards in the national capital will be held with all COVID-19 safety precautions, they said. ....

Byelections in five municipal wards in Delhi to take place on February 28

The Delhi State Election Commission (SEC) has announced that the bypolls will be held for two wards under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and three under the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on February 28.
 The wards are: Ward No. 32N, (Rohini-C); Ward No. 62N, (Shalimar Bagh North) in North Delhi and Ward No. 02-E (Trilokpuri); Ward No. 08-E (Kalyanpuri) and Ward No. 41-E (Chauhan Bangar) in East Delhi.
The bypolls will be held on February 28 from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the SEC said, adding that the last date of filing nominations is February 8.
    The model code of conduct shall be in force in the above five wards and shall continue to be in force till the completion of the election. The Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007 is also being enforced and candidates are requested to strictly abide by it. ....
