PA Turnpike tolls tabbed as most expensive in the world, study finds

So you want to drive across the state of Pennsylvania? Make sure there s enough money in your bank account first.
A recent report by insurance website Budget Direct found that the Pennsylvania Turnpike topped its list as the most expensive toll road in the world.
The study found it will cost motorists $112.91 to travel the near 360-mile roadway, with its length one of the reasons it came in the top spot on the list.
It was followed on the most expensive list in the world by the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austriaat $45.43 and Rijeka Zagreb/Split Dubrovnik in Croatia at $38.42. ....

Crack in Delaware River Bridge, Connecting Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes, Discovered During Paint Inspection Forces Shut Down

The four-lane continuous truss bridge carries vehicles traveling east and west along Interstate 276 from Bucks County, Pennsylvania to Burlington County, New Jersey, over the Delaware River.
Tom Feeney, a spokesman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, which is part owner of the bridge along with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, said the rift was discovered Friday by an inspector who was evaluating paint work recently finished by a contractor.

The inspector immediately alerted turnpike officials who shut down the 6,751-foot-long span. The 60-year-old bridge carries an average of 42,000 vehicles a day, according PennDOT. ....

NEW JERSEY – A winter weather advisory expanded to all of New Jersey Sunday now that ice and a winter storm have impacted the Garden State, and another possible storm is on the way. Road restrictions are in place and authorities have issued warnings

The National Weather Service says the possible ice storm prompted the agency to expand the winter weather advisory. Some snow and a lot of ice and sleet began impacting New Jersey after 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the storm was expected to last until, at the earliest, 10 a.m. on Sunday. ....

CARBONDALE, Pa. Driving the Pennsylvania Turnpike is more expensive in the new year and how you pay your toll determines how much.
The Turnpike commission s toll increase for 2021 includes a six percent increase for E-ZPass users.
If you don t have an E-ZPass account and choose to use the pay by plate option, tolls are almost double what they were last year.

PA Turnpike Toll Increases — and Big Charge for Not Using EZ-Pass — In Effect Sunday

“This balanced approach allows us to maintain a lower rate for those choosing a payment method that is less costly to administer, while those who choose a pricier payment option absorb those costs,” Mark Compton, the commission’s chief executive officer, said in a statement this week.
Such drivers previously paid the same rate as cash users, but cash payments were suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to reduce contact between drivers and toll workers. The commission decided in May to keep the cashless system and laid off about 500 people, mostly toll collectors.
Six toll locations won’t see the 45% jump as they served as cashless system pilots and the increases were already in place: Delaware River Bridge at the New Jersey border, Gateway Toll Plaza at the Ohio border, Beaver Valley Expressway on I-376, Greensburg Bypass, Findlay Connector, and Clarks Summit on I-476/Northeastern Extension. ....
