New Braunfels has a new police chief after city council members unanimously confirmed the appointment of Keith Lane to the post during its Monday meeting. The selection of Lane, who had been serving in an interim capacity since late last year, comes following a nationwide search by the city, assisted by the Keller-based executive recruitment firm of Strategic Government Resources. A field of 62 candidates from 15 states â including 35 from Texas â was narrowed down to four finalists who visited New Braunfels this week for in-person interviews and tours of the community and meetings with officers and employees at the police department, according to City Manager Robert Camareno. ....
Mondayâs New Braunfels City Council meeting will feature some housekeeping items from the May 1 election and the swearing-in of the cityâs next police chief. Council members are expected to canvass the election of two members of the council, which would make the results official. Incumbent Harry Bowers and Lawrence Spradley captured races for council seats representing districts 3 and 4, respectively. According to unofficial results, Bowers defeated challenger Kevin Robles, with 1,027 votes (84.25%) to Roblesâ 192 votes (15.75%). Spradley defeated Joy Harvey, 522 votes to 475, or 52.36% to 47.64%. Council members will also canvass the results of the special election, where all 18 proposed city charter amendments were approved by voters. ....

Second warehouse in the works A nearly 200,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center that will include a parking lot for trailers and trucks will occupy the second parcel of land directly east of Wooster Brush, said Jacob Holdeman, development associate at Indiana-based development firm Scannell Properties. It was originally proposed at a different location, but after review and recommendation from the city, they moved the facility to here, said Andrew Dutton, the city s planning and zoning manager. After the new proposal was drawn up, the city s planning commission reviewed and approved Holdeman s request for a larger outdoor parking area than what city code allowed at its April 1 meeting. ....

The proposed project will be located on a 44-acre section of the recently annexed property on Daisy Way and North Geyers Chapel Road. OTHER ACTION In a 5-2 vote, the council approved a motion to change nearly 1 acre of residential zoning to I-2 industrial zoning on West Henry Street near downtown. Rezoned 20.3 acres of I-1 industrial zoning to I-2 zoning along the south side of the pending Daisy Way extension to Old Airport Road. Approved a motion to purchase 4,000 tons of roadway salt for the upcoming winter season. Nearly 4,700 tons of salt is used each winter on average in Wooster. Despite using 500 tons less this past winter, the city stockpile sits at 3,900 tons. This purchase will be made using the 2022 budget. ....
