By Doug Barrett Apr 8, 2021 8:18 AM Grand Forks health officials are planning to increase outreach efforts in the coming weeks to promote vaccination against the coronavirus. Health Director Deb Swanson says all shots are all spoken for at today’s (Wednesday) clinic at Alerus Center – and a good crowd is expected on Saturday. Swanson says the numbers start to taper off next week as more people find available vaccine – or are unsure if they want the shot. “We are also getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in greater supply. Public Health Director Deb Swanson says they are also measuring the various tiers of vaccination – including to those over the age of 75. “We have vaccinated a little less than 43% according to census data so we do have a little work to do with those individuals over 75. We hope to bump those numbers up this week and next.” ....
By Doug Barrett When it comes to COVID the head of Grand Forks Public Health Department says for now there are more strengths than threats. Deb Swanson says the biggest challenge is obtaining enough vaccine for those who want to receive a shot. Swanson told city council members last night (Monday) that she’s optimistic supplies will begin to increase. Swanson says there are a lot of questions about the new virus variant showing up in parts of the U-S. “Right now we believe the vaccines will still work for these variants.” Swanson says the various vaccine makers are planning more extensive studies to make sure that’s the case. ....
