Pair of Grand Forks Businesses Sold Tobacco to Minors

(Grand Forks, ND) A pair of businesses in a bit of hot water after telling tobacco to minors last week.
The Grand Forks Police Department’s Education and Outreach Bureau, along with area under-age buyers conducted tobacco compliance checks April 15th. These tobacco compliance checks were done in compliance with SYNAR grant funding through the Grand Forks Public Health Department and the ND Department of Health.
The Police Department uses under-age buyers from the community who are under 18 years of age, even though the current Federal Law prohibits sales of tobacco products to buyers under 21 years of age.
The officers and under-age buyers checked 17 businesses within the city of Grand Forks that had tobacco licenses that were issued by the state of North Dakota. Of the 17 businesses that were checked there were two failures. These two failures had a citation issued to the clerk that sold the tobacco product. The store will also face an administrative sanction. ....

High school students will resume full-time, in-person learning March 8, the Grand Forks School Board decided at a meeting Monday, Feb. 8.
All but two board members, Shannon Mikula and Jacqueline Hoffarth, voted in favor of ending the hybrid model that has been in effect for students in grades 9-12 since the start of the school year. Voting in favor of the motion were Doug Carpenter, Chris Douthit, Amber Flynn, Eric Lunn, Jeff Manley, Bill Palmiscno and Cynthia Shabb. ....

GF residents asked not to share registration links for vaccination appointments

Members of the Grand Forks community are reminded not to share registration links for scheduled community vaccination appointments with others. Grand Forks Public Health and Altru will be cancelling all appointments for individuals that do not fit the criteria of 75+, and 65-74 with two high-risk medical conditions and will be adding them to the waitlist for when we reach their tier. Appointments will continue to run as scheduled for those who do qualify for Tier 1 & 2 of Phase 1B.

The Grand Forks scheduled community vaccination appointments will only be scheduled though our community waitlist. Through this process you will be contacted for scheduling exclusively through Altru. You should not use links that are received from friends, family members or coworkers. Those who are eligible are contacted from Altru and can only use the registration link themselves. However, they should not share the link with others. ....
