A clinic that serves the Latino community in Globeville is screening patients before giving them a vaccine appointment at the clinic.

DENVER After two months, nearly 71,000 people in Denver County who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine have gotten their first dose. As vaccines continue to go into arms across Colorado, more and more counties are starting to track the race and ethnicity of people receiving the shots.
Of everyone vaccinated in the county so far, 8% are Latino, while 80% are white.
That s why local advocates and health partners like Tepeyac Community Health Center are making a more concerted effort to reach Latinos in Denver County and the surrounding area. ....

DENVER — Mayor Michael Hancock and Denver officials are continuing to advocate for accelerated COVID-19 vaccine availability for people experiencing homelessness.
The Denver Joint Task Force — made up of representatives from the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment, the Denver Department of Housing Stability, Denver Public Health at Denver Health and Hospital Authority, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and other Homeless Leadership Council providers — sent a memo to state officials last week urging the adoption of a location-based prioritization strategy to vaccinate homeless residents. ....

Challenges continue for Colorado Latinos getting vaccinated


SCL Health and community partners brought 5,000 vaccines to the National Western Complex over the weekend.

DENVER To prioritize vaccines for the Black, Native and Latino communities of Colorado, SCL Health partnered with 39 community organizations to bring just over 5,000 vaccines to the National Western Complex last weekend.
That s where community leader and local advocate Ezzie Dominguez was finally able to get a dozen of her neighbors signed up to be vaccinated Saturday. 
I wish I could have helped thousands, but I was only able to help 10 sign up. And then my husband and me, so that s 12 of us, Dominguez said Monday.  ....

Activist and Mentor Gets Seat at Denver Youth Violence Prevention Action Table


Jonathan McMillan, once a troubled youth and today a mentor and community activist, has joined Mayor Michael Hancock’s Youth Violence Prevention Action Table as its Youth Violence Prevention Coordinator.
The YVPAT was started in 2019, during an increase in gang activity in the city, to improve collaboration and information-sharing across city agencies, community businesses and youth groups in order to boost prevention and intervention efforts. Current members include Kwon Atlas from the mayor s office; Denver Public Health’s Bill Burman; Mike Eaton, director of school safety for Denver Public Schools; and Deanne Maes, chief of Denver Adult Probation. Denver City Attorney Kristin Bronson has been leading the Table since its inception. McMillan was a member of the executive team before getting the full-time gig, which Hancock announced January 27. ....
