Amarillo homicide suspect nabbed in Houston AGN Media Darius Qumaine Allen, who was wanted in connection with an Amarillo homicide, has been located by the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force in Houston, according to a news release from the Amarillo Police Department. Allen was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. He is being held on two warrants out of Potter County, Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. On July 17 at 2:01 p.m., APD officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South Tennessee Street on an assault. When officers arrived, they located Barry Ray Hemphill, a 42-year-old male, deceased from a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the release. ....
The developer who has for years tried to transform the corner of Tennessee and Macomb streets has again revised plans to bring a market and urgent care clinic to the entrance of Frenchtown that includes bringing on another development partner. The Frenchtown/Southside Community Redevelopment Agency Citizen Advisory Committee Monday will get a glimpse at a proposal by developer Tony Brown that is requesting $6.5 million to help bring to life two different projects: Two mixed-use development sites with housing and parking and commercial space. The proposed total cost for the project is upwards of $38 million. Brown’s request includes a $1 a year land lease for the next 99 years or the purchase of CRA property for $10 as well as the acquisition of adjoining private properties to be transferred to the CRA as part of the ground lease. ....

The work consists of increasing the clearance of the overcrossings to 16 feet, 6 inches to meet federal standards. The Magazine Street overcrossing will be closed for an estimated four months starting Thursday. ....

Lawton Distinguished Professor honor Two Florida State University faculty members, one a scholar of Shakespeare and the other a nuclear astrophysicist, will be given the highest honor that the faculty bestow upon their own – they will each be named a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor. Professor of Physics Jorge Piekarewicz and Professor of English Gary Taylor have been selected to receive the honor for 2021-2022. Both professors are from the College of Arts and Sciences, FSU’s largest and most academically diverse college. The Lawton Distinguished Professor Award was first presented in 1957 as the Distinguished Professor Award. It was renamed in honor of the late Vice President for Academic Affairs Robert O. Lawton in 1981. ....
