New Law To Require Crisis Hotline Numbers On School ID Cards

A new law that takes effect in July will require that that high schools and college print crisis hotline numbers on the back of their school IDs.
Starting July, public high schools and colleges will be required to include crisis hotline numbers on their student IDs under a new law passed in 2020.
The idea started in 2015 with former Pinnacle High School principal and incoming Paradise Valley Unified School District superintendent Troy Bales. After his school experienced five suicide during his four years as principal, Bales wanted to connect students with Teen Lifeline, a crisis intervention service for struggling youths. This includes peer-to-peer counseling that connects them other youth who understand what they are going through. ....

Katianna is one of approximately fifteen thousand Semifinalists that were identified this month. According to their website “All winners of Merit Scholarship awards (Merit Scholar designees) are chosen from the Finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference. A variety of information is available for NMSC to evaluate: The Finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership, and the Finalist’s own essay.” ....
