Summer Salute, which is set for Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 7pm. The event is FREE to the public and will take place at McConnell Plaza downtown at the Riverfront. Folks attending the concert are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets. Following in the footsteps of the opening weekend of Friday After 5, in many ways the Summer Salute marks the return of live music and crowds downtown following nearly a year-long drought due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. And the Summer Salute was designed to pay tribute to those folks on the front lines who worked diligently, tirelessly to help us through it. We ll be saluting community leaders, front line workers and emergency responders and, yes, we ll have a country music legend helping us out. ....
During the last year, Quinn led a series of free digital programs featuring small, socially distanced ensembles performing from the Venice Performing Arts Center. President and CEO Christine Kasten said those programs reached a wide audience, but “there is nothing like the thrill of a live orchestra performance. We cannot wait to welcome everyone back safely to the concert hall in November.” The organization’s 48th season will feature seven subscription series concerts leading up to “Songs From the Screen and Stage with Linda Eder,” a special program May 6-7. It opens with “Brahms and The Boys” (Nov. 19-20) featuring Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E minor. Guest artist Thomas Hooten, principal trumpet for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major. The program also includes the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” and Bedrich Smetana’s overture from “The Bartered Bride.” ....

(WWSB) - After initially postponing its 2020-21 season at the Venice Performing Arts Center, The Venice Symphony will return live in November with every concert and guest artist planned for 2020-21. Music Director Troy Quinn will lead The Symphony’s outstanding professional orchestra in 17 concerts (seven concert weekends) from November 2021 to April 2022. “We promised to roll over our concert programs and guest artists from last season to this season due to the response to the programs and the great artistry of these guest performers,” said Quinn. “I believe the themes of these concerts will resonate with our subscribers and I am looking forward to being back on stage with our musicians in the Fall to present them.” ....
Flodell was a part of the Bombers system since 2015, when he was the team s last pick in the first-ever SJHL bantam draft. From there, Flodell played his entire junior career in Flin Flon, spending parts of four seasons with the Bombers. Gaining a reputation as a solid two-way winger and penalty killer, Flodell racked up 24 points in his time as a Bomber, including scoring eight goals. Flodell became an assistant captain for the Bombers midway through the 2019/20 season and began the aborted 2020/21 season as the Bombers captain, playing two games with the C before the season was suspended and eventually cancelled. ....

Tony nominee returns to Asolo Rep Asolo Repertory Theatre is welcoming back audiences for a weekend of outdoor concerts by two-time Tony nominee Laura Osnes, who made her Sarasota debut in the pre-Broadway run of “Bonnie & Clyde” in 2010. She also starred on Broadway in “Grease,” “Cinderella,” “South Pacific” and “Bandstand.” Osnes, who was seen in the recent Hallmark Channel movie “A Royal Holiday,” plans to perform some of her favorite theater music and songs from the shows in which she has appeared. Concerts are at 7 p.m . Friday and Saturday at Asolo Rep’s Terrace Theatre, 5555 N. Tamiami Trail. Seating will follow social distancing guidelines, temperatures will be taken and masks are required.
