By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE The Trussville City Council met for a short regular meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Councilor Perry Cook was not in attendance for the meeting. The council approved changes to the city’s public records request policy. The changes will add charges to some document requests in order to offset the costs of the time and preparation of such requests. “This actually brings us more in line really with the city of Hoover,” Councilor Jaime Anderson said. The changes add a charge of $50 for digitally standard zoning certification letters, $100 for detailed certification zoning letters, including open building and/or zoning code violations, $200 for complex certification zoning letters, including open building and/or zoning code violations, approved site plans, variances, ordinances, resolutions, special permits, conditional and/or special use permits, zoning cases, certificate of occupancy road project plans. From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE An organization that provides training to law enforcement on how to handle cases involving those with special needs, made a visit to Trussville on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Interaction Advisory Group (IAG) conducted the training on autism and developmental disability, with the Trussville Police Department. The training took place at the Trussville Civic Center. Nearly one in five people live with special needs. Co-founder of IAG, Dustin Chandler, said the chance of first responders encountering those with special needs increases every day. “Officers are going to encounter it, so what is the best way to keep that person safe, treat them fairly and have the best outcome that we can? That is what we are looking at,” Chandler explained. “When you get to know that community and have a personal connection with that community, you really see the struggles of everyday life.” ....
TRUSSVILLE Mixed martial arts in coming to Trussville. Tickets are now available for Strikehard 58, which is scheduled to unfold on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Trussville Civic Center. According to Strikehard Productions, the event will begin at 7 p.m. and will include 16 bouts, including six amateur title fights. The card is headlined by a professional welterweight matchup between undefeated Strikehard veteran Treston Vines (3-0) and bare knuckle fighting championship veteran Sedric Johnson. On the undercard, rising amateur flyweight Natalie Gage looks to move to 2-0 after winning her debut by first-round TKO. She will take on Rebekah Rotenberry (1-2), who is looking to get back into the win column after losing her previous fight by submission in the first round. ....

(Photo by Bernard Troncale/The Birmingham News) Facebook Share Jazz in the Park founder Bernard Lockhart died on Monday from complications related to COVID-19, his wife, Jacqueline, announced on Facebook. Lockhart, 59, had been director and event organizer for Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham and event manager at Trussville Civic Center. He founded the Jazz in the Park event series at Avondale Park in Birmingham in 2010. The series later spread to other Birmingham city parks and presented jazz concerts at parks in other cities in Alabama, including in Bessemer, Helena, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa. ....
