Something must have improved at Ipswich City Council over the past six months. This week we reported the role of deputy mayor would be passing over from Councillor Marnie Doyle to another new face in the chambers, Councillor Nicole Jonic. Cr Nicole Jonic has been voted in as deputy mayor. It wasn’t a unanimous decision, despite an earlier pledge by the new-look council to rotate the deputy position every 12 months. Four out of the nine votes were for Cr Doyle to stay in the role. Cr Doyle’s vote was one of the four, which was interesting to see, especially given the fact she briefly resigned from the position last September, before changing her mind and coming back. ....
Sale of the business’ 67 hectares of land was settled on March 30 to an “undisclosed purchaser”. “Unfortunately after seeking interest from assorted parties and the public, the Claypave business was unable to be sold as a going concern,” he said. “I had to look to sell the assets, including plant and equipment, stock and land separately in order to maximise a potential return to creditors. “I’m very pleased to say that I expect to report to creditors shortly that if future recoveries are as anticipated, full payment will be distributed in the coming months. “(This sale will allow) for the secured creditor to be paid in full. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only IPSWICH Mayor Teresa Harding has definitively ruled out running for the federal seat of Blair and another battle with incumbent Shayne Neumann for a place in parliament. Cr Harding, who was elected as the city’s first female mayor last year, unsuccessfully ran as the LNP’s candidate against Mr Neumann in the 2013 and 2016 elections. It’s understood there was a push from within the party for her to run again in the upcoming election with the added profile as Ipswich’s new mayor after 18 months of administration. Premium Content Subscriber only INVESTIGATIONS are underway after a bus allegedly struck a motorcyclist before fleeing the scene at Dinmore. The incident took place on the Cunningham Hwy, near the Aberdare St off-ramp, about 7pm on Friday evening. The motorcyclist, believed to be a young man, was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition. His father Trev Davis took to social media overnight calling for anyone with footage or information about the incident to come forward. “My son is thankfully OK but (we) need details for the police and insurance,” he wrote. A Queensland Police spokeswoman was unable to provide further details. ....
