AMHERST Historic and ongoing racial disparities among Amherst residents uncovered by a group seeking to find a way for the town to offer reparations to Black residents will be presented at a forum next week.
A virtual “Symposium on Reparations” takes place Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. featuring brief research presentations and talks by Reparations for Amherst co-founders Michele Miller and Matthew Andrews.
Miller said that discrepancies between Black and white residents in areas such as housing, education, health, transportation and upward mobility have been identified by participants, but that it was often a struggle to get statistics and only came after extensive digging. ....

HADLEY Cooley Dickinson Health Care officials signaled last week that community rollout of a COVID-19 vaccine is likely to begin in early to mid-February and last for six months.
Cooley Dickinson Hospital has administered around 1,100 first doses of the vaccine in the first phase of the vaccination rollout, with 380 people having also received the second of the two doses, reported Dr. Estevan Garcia, chief medical officer at Cooley Dickinson Health Care. With now two coronavirus vaccines en route to Massachusetts, a number of state hospitals still don’t have ultra-cold freezers needed to store the Pfizer/BioNTech immunizations, prompting some to borrow storage units from neighboring facilities.
In Western Massachusetts, Berkshire Medical Center has already borrowed two of the ultra-cold freezers while staff wait for an order of storage supplies to arrive. ....
