Kennedy, more than 6,400 Wisconsinites have signed on for international service; more than half of those â 3,300 â attended UW-Madison. So it s fitting that on the 60th anniversary of the Peace Corps, UW-Madison is hosting a live panel discussion featuring past directors of the organization from the 1970s to 2021. Former UW-Madison Chancellor Donna Shalala, who was apparently one of the first to serve in the Peace Corps â from 1962-1964 in Iran â will moderate the discussion. She will try to bring the party back into relevance in Ohio politics. Once a key swing state, it’s been 30 years since Democrats controlled Ohio’s Statehouse and a decade since a Democrat was governor. The state went for Donald Trump in 2016, and the 2020 election cemented even further the GOP dominance of Buckeye politics. The job of changing that has fallen to Liz Walters, a Summit County council member and the first woman elected to head the Ohio Democratic Party.
